Warmers and Fillers
1) Memes-Waste hours meming your class (e.g. selena gomez/Selena stopmez and Daniel Radcliff/Daniel Boringcliff)
Encourage students to meme you (and each other) back. This is a great way to have fun with language, share cultural jokes and be creative (by making their own memes to send to the group).
20) Face to face backs to the board-I send a word to Sts A, who must describe it to Sts B, who must run to the wb to write it (never looking at screen!!)
82) Whatsapp against humanity (!) - a variation on cards against humanity. Send out the beginning of a sentence, and groups respond with possible endings. The aim could be to provide grammar practice e.g. conditionals, or to use humour to entertain, or to understand context.
83) Whatsapp pictionary – teacher provides vocab to student A. They look at the word and then turn their phone upside down so their partner (B) cant see it. A draws a picture. B has to run to the board to write their answer. A then photographs their drawing and sends it to the group a) for fun and b) to prove that there was no mime or writing going on!!
84) Whatsapp scategories – Teacher provides 5 categories (e.g. one country/city/sport/adjective/verb) and then sends one letter of the alphabet. Teams must reply with 1 message only, including all 5 words, spelt correctly, and if they are first, they are the winners of that round and get to select the next letter.
85) Whatsapp target word. SMH has a 9-letter word game in their daily paper. Send a photo to the class, who have to come up with words. Once they post a word, others can't post it. At the end, they add up how many words they got (first) and get extra points for longer words.
87) Warmer – take out your whatsapp/facebook and show your partner
-the most interesting thing in your feed.
-the funniest.
-the happiest.
-something good about your friends.
-the friend who always posts about food.
-the friend who is always travelling.
