Reading
33) Concept research-each pair researches a part of a discussion/topic area. Students need to read up about their area eg wikipedea and select only the relevant text, copy and paste it back into the chat. This forces them to skim through english information, and to scan for what they need, then detailed reading to select only the relevant words. Alternatively, students can create summaries in their own words to send to the class. This activity could be used with elementary right through to proficiency.
46) Reading tasks- break up reading tasks into sub-skills eg send a title and image for Sts to predict content of article
-send text to get gist
-send through a gist question
-Sts respond
-optional class discussion of proposed gist ideas
-send through questions that search for specific information
-repeat feedback loop
-send through different questions to different groups that Sts can use to interpret the text and discuss their own ideas.
-ask Sts to respond to the implications of what they've just engaged with-content and HOW they read. Challenge them to use it and report back before next class.
